The year 2017 is in full swing and even though we are in the dead of winter many of us are dreaming of spring. Thankfully, the masterminds at Pantone Color Institute were also thinking of giving us all a fresh start when they decided on their 2017 Color of the Year, Greenery!
“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose.”
Though Pantone considers the color multi-seasonal, it definitely conjures up more of a hint of new spring leaves hitting the sun for the first time. So, while we may still be snuggled up at home away from the cold winter air, we can use Greenery to fill our homes with the sense of new Spring beginnings. Here are 4 ways to add 2017’s trendiest new color to your home:
Accessories: This year’s Color of the Year is a far cry from some of Pantone’s softer, more neutral colors of the past, so we understand that you might want to incorporate it slowly or in more subtle places. Accessories like throw pillows or vases are perfect to add a pop of spring color to your space but can easily be changed out whenever you like.
Paint: In 2015 and 2016 we saw a drastic rise in all white walls. While some people reveled in the crisp and clean essence, those of us who loved color found it to be a difficult trend to embrace. Fortunately, colored walls and even wallpaper are back on top and we can think of no better way to fill your room with the fresh, yet calming tones, of Greenery. Kilz Tribute’s Melon Extract, Apple Martini, or Iguana make perfect all-over or accent wall colors while embracing the fresh yellow/green of Greenery.
Backsplash: If you’re planning a kitchen or bathroom renovation in the near future consider adding Greenery colored subway tile or a tile mosaic to add a pop of color to your space. Glass subway tile is the perfect pop in an all white kitchen and we love how a mosaic stripe adds a bit of color and fun to an otherwise neutral shower tile. With so many different shades, shapes, and mosaic options we know you’ll find the perfect accent to your style.
Actual greenery: Since the color Greenery is named after plant life we would be remiss to not suggest adding a pop of Greenery with houseplants! Even if you don’t have a green thumb there are plenty of low-maintenance houseplant options like succulents and corn plants. Houseplants help purify and add oxygen to the air in your home and some have even been shown to promote healing and deter illness.
No matter how you want to incorporate Greenery into your life this year we know it’s going to be beautiful and reflective of your personal style.
